Hello Erin and thank you for your question. Some things you may choose to do are: becoming an emergency medical technician or paramedic certification, volunteering for a fire department, doing a “ride-along” with a fire department to see the job first hand, learning more about emergency services, talking with firefighters and researching the fire department requirements in the area(s) where you would like to work since those requirements vary. Hang in there!
Best wishes,
FF Dan

Heyyy what is the hazards of a blocked fire exit ??
25 Feb 2010 om 8:40
Hello Lauren and Chantelle. A blocked fire exit is a serious hazard. Exits have one purpose and that is to give people an escape route if fire strikes. Always make sure to keep exits clear and free of obstructions.
Take care,

Do you have to go to college to be a firefigter? If so, how long?
03 Mar 2010 om 9:30
Good morning Amanda and thank you for your question. The answer to your question is, “maybe” because the requirements to be a firefighter are dependent upon the fire department you wish to work. Please keep in mind that there are associate and bachelor degree programs related to the fire service and professional certifications (Firefighter I or II, etc.).
Some things you may choose to do while pursuing a fire service career are: becoming an emergency medical technician or paramedic certification, volunteering for a fire department, doing a “ride-along” with a fire department to see the job first hand, learning more about emergency services, talking with firefighters and researching the fire department requirements in the area(s) where you would like to work since those requirements (certifications, training, college, etc.) vary.
Stay safe,

Good afternoon Briana. As a family you and your parents could: 1. Go to our “puzzles & more” page and do a home safety check 2. Visit our home page and do a “Hunt for Home Hazards.” These activities would help you and your parents work together to make your home safer.
Take care,
FF Dan
