A fire engine from Olathe Fire Station #4.There are different kinds of fire trucks that firefighters use to help people. Some are big, some are small. 

Firefighters use fire trucks everyday. In Olathe, four pumper engines, three quints (pumpers with a large ladder on top) and one rescue truck, along with several staff vehicles and specialty units like “HazMat,” are used by firefighters each day.

The Rescue carries special equipment such as a concrete cutting chain saw, egg-size camera, rescue ropes, tools like the Jaws of Life and more!! Utility trucks help firefighters perform daily tasks, emergency duties and more. Quints are fire trucks with a 75 foot aerial ladder.

The battalion chief manages all of the firefighers each day. Engines carry firefighting, emergency medical and basic rescue equipment plus a 500 gallon water tank. This state-of-the-art truck helps investigate fire causes and disposes of explovises and hazardous devices.

The rescue pod delivers special equipment for technical rescues. The squad is our smallest truck and responds to the same types of emergencies as our full-sized trucks. The tanker has a 1200 gallon water tank.

The hazardous materials truck carries equipment like kits to identify unknown substances, full body suits and more. Brush trucks are special units used to fight grass fires. The Bronto has a reach of 114 feet.
